If the gear units are fitted with cooling coil, close the stop valves on the water in- and outflow pipes. If there is risk of freezing, drain the water from the cooling coil. Treat the gear unit with preservative, see items 7.3.1 and 7.3.2 (for shut-down period exceeding 6 weeks ). 7.3.1 Interior preservation for longer disuse Depending on the type of lubrication and/or shaft sealing, the following types of interior preservation can be applied. 7.3.1.1 Interior preservation with operating oil Gear units with splash-lubrication systems and contacting shaft seals can be filled with the service oil already used up to just below the venting point. The duration of this preservation depends on the age of the shaft sealing rings and the oil.
