Trouble Shooting Tips Your Mixertech mixer drive will perform satisf actorily if the following suggestions are carefully carried out. It

is estimated that approximately 9 percent of gear reduction failures can be attributed to improper lubrication, mis application and misalignment.

Improper lubrication causes high percent age of gear reduction unit failures. Too frequently speed reducers are star ted up without

any lubricant at all. Conversely, units are sometimes filled to higher oil level than pecified in the belief that better lubrication is obtained. This higher oil le vel usually results in more of the input power going in to churning of the oil, creating excessive temperatures with detrimental results to the bearings and gearing. Insufficient lubrication causes the same results. Gear failure due to overload is broad and vari ed area of misapplication. The nature of load (input torque, output torque, durat ion of operating cycle , shocks, speed, acceleration, etc.) determines the gear unit sizing and other des ign criteria. Generally, mixer drive must be larger than the torque output capability of the prime mover would indicate. gearbox service factor compensates for vary ing severity of application conditions by providing higher nominal power rating which in effect increases the size of the gear unit. If there is any question in the user' mind that the actual service conditions may be more severe than originally ant icipated, it is recommended that this information be communicated to the mixer supplier before star - up. Often there ar remedies that can be suggested before mixer unit is damaged by overload, but none are effective after severe damage occurred. Bredgar Road,
