Welding, heat treatment and non destructive testing shall be carried out in accordance with the requirement of ANSI B3.8/ API-1 and additional requirement specified in the specification. In case of conflict between code and specification more stringent conditions shall be applicable. 2. No welding shall be carried out without preheating the joint to 1qC (5 qF) when the ambient temperature is below 1 qC (5 ). 3. Preheat shall be applied while welding the following materia as detailed below : API 5L Gr. : Thickness upto 1 qF min. 1 2 1 : MSS-SP-4 Gr. F6 : Thickness beyond 2 qF 2 Gr. WPB : 1 mm MSS-SP-7-WPHY6 4. For fillet welds complete welding may be carried out using the electrodes recommended for filler passes. 5. All weldments & HAZ shall meet the hardness requirements of 3 HV1 during procedure qualification. If the hardness exceeds 3 HV1 the joints shall be heat treated at temp. 1- 1qF for one hour. The heating and cooling rates shall be decided during procedure qualification subject to maximum of 2 qC/Hr. Hardness testing shall be carried out by Vickers hardness tester during welding procedure qualification test only. No hardness test is required for production welds. 6.
