and/or aseous waste mate- rials in high-pressure coal hydrogenation processes by means of singye-tube reactor. The single-tube reactor used by

Messrs. ENTRA offers the possibility of performing ,,flash-dis- tillation under exact temperature control and with fast reactivity forthe reprocessing of

waste oil, the goal of which is to obtain total distillation. In this context, virtuallyall the mineral oil com- ponents are

distilled off, while the impurities remain concentrated in the residue. With flash dis- tillation, the retention time in the reactor

is approx. 1 seconds, while it is estimated to be be- tween and 2 hours in the case of conventional lubricating oil distillation in columns. pilot plant based on this principle was built by SUDOL for test purposes. The goal of operating pilot plant was to match the previous experience with reprocessing by the hitherto conventional acid and clay treatment method to the parameters found when ope- rating single-tube reactor. Furthermore, at one plant, the characteristic data required for de- signing production plant were to be determined. Ideally, the addition of sulphuric acid and clay was to be,totally unnecessary. The new process would thus enable maximum material yie with minimum waste production. 2. Working steps The working programme was split into the following sections: Installation of the equipment, partial commissioning, preliminary trials, trial operation, determi- nation of parameters, optimisation, product/environmentaI analysis, evaluation of measure- ments, documentation, performance specifications, prototype plant. The theoretical considerations elaborated can be neither pursued nor proven in the laboratory, as no equipment of corresponding desi is available. It was therefore envisa ed that pilot plant with minimum throughput of 3qdrywaste oil per hour be constructec?and thatpreli- minary trials initially be conducted in this plant. In this context, the following were to be te
