t 3. Results The central goal, namely construction of demonstration plant for anaerobic pre-treatment of the wastewater from brewery, was

realised by the middle of 1. Thus, the first-ever demonstration plant utilising this engineerin approach was installed in German brewery

within the framework of the project. The fofowing months of work were characterised by running-in the plant toa steady-state operating

condition.Analysis programswere run and the operating conditions recorded at the same time. The mean valuesforthe demonstration plant over 1 weeksof

operation ielded dailysupply of some 1 kg COD in ap rox 3 m3 metered substrate. The purified effyuent of the plant still contained roughly 1 kg/$resibual COD, corresponding to an avera elimination perform- ance of approx. 9/.These results were measured at mean volume%ad of 2 kg COD per m3 digestion tank volume. The limiting factor in this context was not the system capacity, but rather lack of substrate. Thus, the technical & objective can be considered as having been reached satisfactorily. The significance of this forthe individual com any is that, of the permitt- ed total daily load of 2 kg COD/, proportion of 6% (1 5 kg CgDld) can already be elimi- nated in the in-house treatment stage.
