Another characteristic is the cross-section geometry of the blade shank. Most designs are rectangular and can be adjusted exibly to the required tool radius using parallel plates. There are also shanks with pentagonal cross-section, for which no parallel plates can be used. The number of xing screws per stick blade depends on the supplier. Cutter heads with different numbers of blade groups can be used for the same nominal tool radius. In this case the proper cutter head is chosen according to the module and the expected chip volume. If there is not enough space between consecutive blades the chips will jam. The avoidance of common divider between the number of blade groups and the number of teeth of the work piece may also be the deciding factor. The width of the blade shank is chosen on the basis of the required prole height and the stiffness of its cross-section. Blade shanks which are too wide have an unused shoulder and increase the cost of the blank, incurring additional grinding costs and unnecessary wear on the grinding wheel. On stick blade, the surfaces which form the blade prole are ground to match the blade shank (see Fig. 6.. For regrinding, the stick blades are removed from the cutter head and the entire blade prole is reground in the direction of the blade shank. These stick blades are mounted in the cutter head again and adjusted to the dened po
