the critical range of moisture content (2% for IR-8 variety of paddy) will reduce net recovery of grain.As suggested by

the researchers, the recommended range of the CPH, the grain moisture,and the harvest duration for cereal and pulse crops are presented in Table 1. It serves asthe guideline for the harvesting of common crops. The sowing date, crop variety, and climate will bring considerable variation in the CPH, harvest duration, and the grain mois- ture. Any unscheduled rain of short duration will not only delay the CPH by 2 days,but will also result in the shattering of grain as well as loss and deterioration of grainquality. In light of the foregoing discussion, it is apparent that the crops must be harvested within limited time span (harvest duration) for specic variety. Use of mechanical harvestersfast cutting of crops, with reduced human drudgeryis therefore essential and preferred so that the harvesting is over within the specied period when the optimumgrain moisture range prevails.
